What has changed in US customs?

From 24 February 2026, a new 10% US tariff will apply to certain goods entering the United States. The US government has introduced a new Section 122 tariff under the U.S. Trade Act. This replaces the previous IEEPA tariffs, sometimes called the “Trump tariffs”.

Here’s what that means:

  • A 10% tariff applies from 24 February 2026
  • This may increase to 15% (awaiting confirmation)
  • The previous IEEPA tariffs have ended
  • This effects commercial goods entering the USA

This is a developing situation, and we will keep you updated if anything changes again.

What is Section 122?

Section 122 is a new US tariff applied to imported goods. For business shipments (B2C or B2B2C), the Section 122 tariff is added on top of:

  • Standard customs duties
  • Other existing US tariffs

For postal shipments, Section 122 replaces the old IEEPA tariffs and is only applicable for a maximum of 150 days, unless an extension is granted.

What does this mean for you?

The good news is that the new Section 122 tariff replaces the previous IEEPA tariff, so:

Will I need to pay more?

If you are sending goods that were already subject to US duties and tariffs, those charges will still apply. If you're sending a commercial parcel (B2C or B2B2C), the Section 122 tariff will be an additional charge under the new rules.

The total cost depends on:

  • The value of the goods
  • The type of product
  • The customs duty rate
  • The Section 122 tariff rate

We’ll continue to show duties and taxes clearly during booking. Evri or the relevant authorities will collect duties and taxes in line with US customs rules.

How the changes could affect your business, and what you can do about it

One of the biggest challenges with the new US import rules and major international carriers is that senders will have to pay taxes and duties before their parcel even leaves the UK, which can tie up your business costs.

That’s where Evri comes in. Our tax and duty collection model allows you to choose whether you or the recipient pays, with all fees collected upfront. This means no unexpected costs, fewer delays, and your parcels keep moving smoothly.
