Evri reveals UK’s kindest delivery driver ahead of World Kindness Day

13th November 2025: Ahead of World Kindness Day on 13th November – a day to celebrate acts of kindness, compassion and goodwill, Evri, the UK’s premier parcel company has been searching for the UK’s kindest delivery driver. Evri has crunched the numbers and is celebrating one of its kindest couriers, Michael McMullen, who was rated ‘friendly’ by the customers he delivers to, more than 1,700 times so far in 2025 alone, making him one of the three top-rated independent couriers for friendliness, out of Evri’s 30,000 strong team of couriers. Evri’s couriers are rated on average 4.6/5, and whilst Michael’s star rating exceeds the average, it's the number of ‘friendly’ ratings that makes him really stand out.
Michael has been delivering parcels for Evri for five years in seaside town Seaham, in County Durham and is a familiar face in his local community. He said: “I joined Evri because there’s good money to be made, if you give a good service. My regular customers make the job great, and they’re an important part of what keeps me doing what I do, alongside the flexibility and delivering in my local area – I’ll often bump into my regulars in the supermarket when I’m doing my weekly shop and it’s always nice to see a friendly face.”
Starting with just 30 parcels a day, Michael is now comfortably delivering 140 parcels a day – up to 200 at busier times. He attributes his high friendliness rating to going the extra mile, “I love doing the same round, that’s the way I really get to know my regulars. I read some of the comments they leave for me, and I think I’ve probably been rated most-friendly because I help my customers carry heavy boxes to exactly where they want them – whether that’s on a kitchen worktop or round the back. For some of the more elderly customers I deliver to, I know I’m the only face they might see that day, so I think it’s important even though we’re busy just to give them 5 minutes of our time. I think a smile to say good morning goes a long way too, and you just know that customers appreciate you going the extra mile.”
Kindness is a two-way street; Michael and Evri encourage customers to consider these simple ways to be kind to their local courier, especially during the busy parcel season:
- Make sure you’ve got a visible house number, and outside lights on especially if it’s dark when you’re expecting a parcel.
- Keep pets secure, whilst most love dogs, some four-legged friends can be a bit too enthusiastic that your parcel has arrived.
- Choose a safe place if you’re not going to be in, you can do it through the Evri app, or Michael says he doesn’t mind a handwritten note in the window if that’s what customers prefer.
Michael concluded, “To be honest, getting to know your courier is the best thing you can do, cause then they know exactly where to leave your parcel.”
Evri is proud to celebrate the everyday kindness shown by couriers like Michael who help make parcel delivery a more personal and positive experience. Evri has given Michael a shopping voucher to thank him for living the company’s values.
And for anyone interested in following in Michael’s footsteps, Evri is currently on the lookout for couriers to join the business, with roles available across County Durham.
In preparation for what is planned to be another record-breaking festive period, Evri is strengthening its workforce in the region with a mixture of full-time and flexible roles available.
Couriers can typically earn up to £18 an hour on average, while new recruits looking to join the parcel firm’s network are eligible to enjoy an enhanced benefits package, which includes a ‘welcome payment’ of up to £1000, alongside an additional ‘learning payment’ designed to support new couriers in their training.
