Bradford MP visits Hermes depot to view investment ahead of peak season

An Evri Courier gathering multiple parcels from their car to deliver to their destination

Judith Cummins, the MP for Bradford South, has visited the Hermes depot in her constituency this morning to hear about the investment in local depots and employees ahead of the anticipated seasonal increase in parcel volume.

A Yorkshire company born and bred, Hermes’ roots can be traced back to 1974 when Grattan Mail Order in Bradford launched its own home delivery model.

The former MP for Bradford South now that Parliament has been dissolved, was taken on a tour of the building by the Hermes Depot Operations Management team.  The 55,000 sq ft site is one of 26 depots across the country operated by the business, forming an integral part of the national operation which delivers 390 million parcels a year.

The tour was then followed by discussions around Hermes’ overall business performance, which has seen double digit growth over the past few years; as well as regional investment and employment. More than 120 people work at the Bradford depot with an additional 21 roles created in the last month.

We’re proud that investment has continued in one of the company’s core Yorkshire sites with many exciting roles currently available. Today was a great opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the region.

It was great to be invited to the Hermes depot in Low Moor to speak with workers. This year, working jointly with trade unions, Hermes improved their workers’ rights by guaranteeing paid holiday for couriers. If re-elected as the MP for Bradford South I will continue to champion workers’ rights so that everyone is treated fairly.
