Our exciting finance graduate scheme

Some of our fantastic graduates!

It all adds up!

We’re the UK’s biggest dedicated parcel delivery company. But there’s much more to Evri than delivering parcels – just check out our emerging talent programme.

While operational and driving roles are covered by our apprenticeship schemes, we also offer thriving graduate programmes in key functions such as IT, sales, client development, HR and finance.

We’re showcasing the finance scheme here, which is based in our Morley headquarters. It lasts for three years and is rotational, which means graduates get the chance to work across several teams within the department – from commercial finance and business partnering to analysis, planning and business intelligence.

As well as gaining on-the-job experience, networking opportunities and expert support through the Evri Emerging Talent programme, graduates also work towards a Level 7 CIMA qualification. By the end of the scheme, you’ll be a fully qualified accountant and be equipped with the skills required to enjoy a rewarding career in finance.

The inside story

The finance scheme began in 2019 and, last year, the first group of grads qualified and took up full-time roles with Evri. Our 4 grads – Daniel Josephs, Zac Harlock, Becky Crane & Kirsty Gove – have all gone on to permanent positions, becoming Financial Accountants and Finance Business Partners across 3 of our Finance functions.

Who better to give an insight into the programme than Kirsty Gove, one of our graduate success stories.

“You spend your first year in our central finance team, where you learn the basics of accounting & work really closely with graduates in the year above you, whilst also getting a ‘buddy’ and a Head of Year for further support. You are well supported in both work & study by the senior leadership team, but also through the wider graduate network which allows you to develop your softer skills.

“In the third year, we chose where we wanted to rotate into next, including our Commercial and Operations teams. When we started, the overall finance team was about half of its current size and the graduate scheme has really expanded quickly with this. The development you gain on the scheme is the perfect platform to start your career, and the fast-paced environment lends to a wide variety of tasks, but with a structure around you to support & push you on.”

It’s been a challenging few years thanks to Covid and a major company rebrand. But our first round of graduates has gained invaluable experience along the way.

“When Covid hit, some of our development moved remotely. At the same time the company grew dramatically, so we were trying to learn the basics while the business was more than doubling its parcel volume.

It was tough, but in a good way. We were given a lot of responsibility and accountability and exposed to a very high growth business during the pandemic which was a unique experience for us all.”

Kirsty is currently in operations finance, but she spent much of her final year in commercial. “I worked in our international inbound space. It’s a part of the company that just a couple of years ago was only dealing with around 5 million parcels, but now we’re doing over 60 million. It’s a good example of a high-growth area you can get involved in whilst still on the scheme, which is really exciting for a graduate.”

Top tip…

Kirsty’s got a great piece of advice for anyone interesting in applying.

“One of the most important things is to be yourself. At Evri there are loads of opportunities and lots of approachable people who genuinely want to help you develop. Don’t worry about saying things you think people want to hear – just show the real you and be creative.”
