City Confidential is an American documentary television show on the A&E Network, which singles out a community during each episode and investigates a crime that occurred there. Rather than being a straighforward procedural, the show begins by focusing on the history and spirit of the city chosen. Often, the crime and persons involved highlight a unique feature of that community. Additionally, the show analyzes not only the crime itself, but also the impact which the crime, ensuing investigation and legal proceedings, had on the community at large.
Part of City Confidentials success is in its wide variety of American cities the show covers. The cities featured vary in size and prominence, from the smallest village to the largest urban areas. The show premiered in 1999, and has featured communities of all sizes, from small ones such as Newberry, South Carolina and Saddle River, New Jersey, to major cities such as New Orleans, Louisiana and Miami.
