Mani Ratnam (மணி ரத்னம்) (born June 2, 1956 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India) is a Tamil Indian filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. He is known for directing a number of critically acclaimed films including Mouna Raagam (1986), Nayagan (1987), Anjali (1990), Roja (1992), Bombay (1995), Iruvar (1997), Dil Se (1998), Kannathil Muthamittal (2002) and Yuva (2004). He has won a number of awards throughout his career, including five National Film Awards, five Filmfare Awards (South), four Filmfare Awards (Hindi), and ten international film festival awards.
