John Lutz (born April 23, 1973 in Pipestone, Minnesota) is an American television writer and actor.
The son of a Lutheran minister, Lutz grew up in Michigan and attended Indiana's Valparaiso University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Lutz later began his professional career as a writer-performer with Chicago's ImprovOlympic and Second City theaters.
Since 2004, Lutz has served as a writer for NBC's Saturday Night Live. During this time, he has also appeared in small roles on SNL. Lutz is currently playing the recurring role of J.D. Lutz on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock. His character is a sketch comedy writer for the show-within-a-show.
Lutz also makes frequent appearances at ASSSSCAT and at the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City.
