More on Ettore Messina
Description from Wikipedia:
Ettore Messina (born September 30, 1959 in Catania) is an Italian basketball coach that currently serves as head coach of CSKA Moscow in Russia, leading them to the 2006 Euroleague title in his first season there. On May 04, 2008 CSKA Moscow gained his sixth Euroleague title downing Maccabi Elite in Madrid Final Four. Ettore has his own blog on Sports.ru.
Before he joined CSKA in 2005, he served as head coach of Italian power Benetton Treviso, where he succeeded Mike D'Antoni in 2002. Prior to that, he had two different stints (1989-1993 and 1997-2002) at another Italian power, Virtus Bologna. During his second stint at Virtus, he lifted Euroleague trophies in 1998 and 2001.
From 1993 to 1997 he was the coach of Italy's national team, winning the silver medal at the EuroBasket 1997.
He is regarded as one of the best coaches in Europe and in the Euroleague, having been named in 2008 as one of the 50 Greatest Contributors in the history of the Euroleague and its predecessor, the European Cup.
For many journalists and insiders, Messina might become the first non-American coach of a NBA franchise.
