Time for Singletary to step down as face of the franchiseA warning, though. Do not confuse face with power here. Power is the person who makes the decisions. Davis, Cohan and Beane have power. Face is the person you think of when you think of the team. And it's always better for the face to be a... More on Chris Cohan
Description from Wikipedia:
Christopher J. Cohan is the current owner of the Golden State Warriors of the NBA. He acquired a 25-percent interest in the team in 1991; in 1995, he became sole owner; he sold 20 percent of the team to four Silicon Valley investors in 2005.
Cohan's tenure as owner of the Warriors has been highlighted by one of the most memorable upsets in NBA Playoff history and a continued commitment to better the franchise via the addition of new state-of-the-art facilities and fiscal outlay. He was the guiding force behind a completely refurbished arena in 1997 (now the 19,596-seat ORACLE Arena) and one of the NBA's most attractive practice facilities in 1998 (located in downtown Oakland). His willingness to invest in player salaries in an attempt to improve the team and a deep-rooted passion for philanthropy have also been a staple of his ownership. Under Cohan's guidance, the Warriors have annually ranked among the top half of the NBA in player salaries and the franchise is regarded as the most aggressive professional sports team in the Bay Area in regards to community involvement.
In 2007, Cohan's eighth-seeded Warriors (42-40) eliminated the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks (67-15) in the First Round of the Playoffs. It marked the first time in NBA Playoff history that a number eight seed had defeated a number one seed in a best-of-seven series. The underdog Warriors also created a national-buzz with their creative "We Believe" slogan and generated attention for their faithful fans, who established single-season franchise records in attendance in five of six years from 2002 to 2008. One year after Cohan's team made their dramatic playoff run, the Warriors established another NBA record in 2008 --- winning the most games in NBA history (48) for a non-playoff team.
Prior to purchasing the Warriors, Cohan founded Sonic Communications in 1977. It became one of the largest independently owned cable outlets in the country before he sold it in May of 1998.
