Hamilton is a town in South Lanarkshire, in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland. It serves as the main administrative center of the South Lanarkshire council area. It is the fifth largest town in Scotland after Paisley, East Kilbride, Livingston and Cumbernauld, and is situated 12 mi south-east of Glasgow, and 35 mi south-west of Edinburgh on the south bank of the River Clyde at its confluence with the Avon Water.
