Dallas (pronounced: /ˈdæləs/) is the third-largest city in the state of Texas and the ninth-largest in the United States. The city covers 342.5 sqmi, not including water area, and is the county seat of Dallas County. As of June 23, 2007, the United States Census Bureau estimates the population of Dallas at 1,232,940 people.
The city is the main economic center of the 12-county Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area, nicknamed "the Metroplex." At over 6.1 million people, it is the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States.
