This 1989 movie also featured Michael Lerner, Danny Aiello, Redd Foxx, Della Reese and Murphy's brother Charlie Murphy. Murphy also wrote and directed. Murphy was the executive producer and Mark Lipsky was the producer. Murphy had always wanted to direct and star in a period piece, and thus, this movie was made. The movie was a critical failure but a financial success.
