Rocky Elsom (born 14 February 1983 in Melbourne) is an Australian rugby union footballer. His usual position is as a - normally, blindside, although he can play openside, lock or number eight. He has captained the Waratahs, his previous club, on occasion. In mid-2008 he joined the Irish side Leinster in the Magners League competition. Elsom is considered a rare talent in being able to play all three back row positions as well as lock, making him a rare utility forward. He is known for his brute strength and his tackling ability. Over his career Elsom has also worked on his line-out jumping, becoming a valuable extra option because of his height, which stands at almost 2 metres.
Elsom has been a regular for since making his début in 2005 against . A product of Brisbane’s Nudgee College, he represented Australia at Under-16 level in 1999 and Australian Schools in 2000 before being picked up by NRL club the Bulldogs, where he spent the following two seasons. Following his return to Rugby Union in 2003, Elsom featured heavily for the Waratahs in the last three years of the Super 12 before making his Wallaby début. In 2007 Elsom was named captain of the Waratahs in the absence of Phil Waugh.
