She debuted in the critically acclaimed film Kannathil Muthamittal (2002), directed by Mani Ratnam, playing the young girl Amudha, on a mission to meet her biological mother in war-torn Sri Lanka. Her performance in the film won her universal praise and in 2003, she won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
