More on Mark McKinnon
Description from Wikipedia:
Mark McKinnon is a Republican politician in the United States currently an "informal advisor" to John McCain's presidential bid.
McKinnon is President of Maverick Media and Vice-Chairman of Public Strategies, which has been described by the Texas Observer as "an Austin-based PR firm that boasts it can 'translate winning campaigns for political candidates into winning campaigns for corporations'". The firm also employs President George W Bush's former counselor Dan Bartlett.
A former policy advisor and media consultant to President George W. Bush and Republican Senator and presidential candidate John McCain, McKinnon created much of the television campaign for then-Governor Bush's bid for president in 2000, and reprised that role in 2004. He was working in the same capacity for Senator McCain, but left the campaign on May 21, 2008, stating that he preferred not to campaign against Illinois Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic Party nominee for president.
On August 27, 2008, the Dallas Morning News reported that McKinnon had returned to the McCain team to help Cindy McCain prepare for her GOP convention speech.
On September 24, 2008, Variety and other publications reported that McKinnon would co-chair (with former Bill Clinton press secretary Mike McCurry a pro-showbiz anti-piracy advocacy group calling itself "Arts and Labs." (Group members are Viacom, NBC Universal, the Songwriters Guild of America, Cisco Systems, AT&T, and Microsoft.)
