Dierdre "Dede" Scozzafava represents District 122 in the New York State Assembly, which comprises large portions of St. Lawrence County, Lewis County and a small portion of Oswego County. Her voter base lies in the conservative Lewis County.
First elected in 1998, Scozzafava is the current Ranking Minority Member of the Codes Committee, as well as a member of the Education and Local Government committees. For the 2001-2002 session she served on the Standing Committees on Economic Development, Education, and Social Services. She is one of 42 Republicans in the 150-seat Assembly.
Prior to her election she served as the Village of Gouverneur Trustee for four years, subsequent to which she served as Mayor of Gouverneur, from 1993-1998.
In addition to her work in the Assembly, Scozzafava works as an investment advisor for RBC Dain Rauscher Inc., which is located in Watertown, New York. According to campaign filing records, she, her husband and other family members are the largest donors to her campaigns.
She holds B.S. from the Boston University School of Management, as well as an M.B.A. from the Clarkson Graduate School of Management.
