David James McAllister (born January 12 1971 in Berlin) is a German politician (CDU). He is leader of the parliamentary group in the Lower Saxon Landtag.
McAllister was born as son of a German mother and a Scottish father. Since August 2003 he has been married with his wife Dunja. The couple has two daughters.
In 1989 McAllister finished school. He left the Niedersächsisches Internatsgymnasium in Bad Bederkesa with his high school diploma (Abitur). From 1989 to 1991 McAllister served as a soldier in the Bundeswehr.
1994 McAllister became local chairman of the CDU youth organisation Junge Union in the district Cuxhaven. From 1991-1996 he studied law with an scholarship of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation at the University of Hanover.
Since 1996 McAllister is member of the Cuxhaven district council (Kreistag). In 1998 he became member of the Lower Saxon Landtag. There McAllister is since 2003 leader of the CDU-parliamentary party group. From 2002 to 2003 he also was secretary general of the CDU in Lower Saxony. McAllister is one of the most influential politicians in his state after minister-president Christian Wulff. McAllister succeeded Wulff as party chairman of the CDU in lower saxony in June 2008.
