More on National Union
Description from Wikipedia:
The National Union (União Nacional, pronounced: /uniˈɐ̃w̃ nɐsjuˈnaɫ/) was the only legal political party of the Portuguese Estado Novo (New State) right-wing regime, under dictator António de Oliveira Salazar..
It was founded in 1930, during the Ditadura Nacional (National Dictatorship). Officially, it was not a political party, but an "organisation of unity of all the Portuguese". In 1970, two years after Salazar was replaced by Marcello Caetano as its leader, the name of the party was changed to Acção Nacional Popular (People's National Action). The party won all of the seats in the Portuguese National Assembly elections, from 1934 to 1973.
The party was disbanded in 1974 being considered as a Fascist organization, following the Carnation revolution, when democracy was restored in Portugal.
