Music.com is a web site that provides a social network service for artists and individuals, as well as an extensive music database containing artist biographies, album information, and audio samples. It is now based in Los Angeles
Originally music.com was owned by an Asian semi-conductor company whose name was an acronym of M.U.S.I.C. and coincidentally had the rights to that web address. The owners had a French socialite associate of theirs run the site, which also included a print magazine and even a store in New York City. Management's lack of business acumen caused them to abruptly shut down, forcing talented staffers, many of who are accomplished writers, out of work. Later, others obtained the rights to the already-established Web destination.
Music.com's partnerships with Allmusic, Pandora and PriceGrabber provide the site with artist coverage, free internet radio, and shopping services. While artist biographies within the music database are provided by Allmusic, album reviews may be written by site users and also appear on their member profiles.
