Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü (Fenerbahçe Sports Club), commonly known as Fenerbahçe (pronounced: /feneːɾbatʃe/), is a professional sports club based in the district of Kadıköy (also known as the Fenerbahçe district) in İstanbul, Turkey. The name of the sports club (as well as the "nickname" of Kadıköy) derives from a famous lighthouse located within the area ('Fener' in Turkish means lighthouse, 'bahçe' means garden). Fenerbahçe is one of the most popular sports clubs in Turkey. The most famous branch of the club is football . Fenerbahçe's football team currently plays in Turkcell Süper Lig. They are nicknamed The Yellow Canaries (Sarı Kanaryalar) and play their home games at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadyumu in Kadıköy.
The club also competes in basketball, volleyball, rowing, boxing, sailing, athletics, swimming and table tennis. Fenerbahçe celebrated its centennial year in 2007.
