The 1st Division (officially named Viasat Divisionen after main sponsor Viasat) has been the name of the second highest football league in Denmark since 1991. Initially founded as the highest level of football in Denmark in 1945, the 1st Division became the second tier of Danish football when the Danish Superliga was formed in 1991.
The top ranking teams each year win promotion to the Superliga, while the bottom finishers get relegated to the Danish 2nd Divisions.
TV 2 Sport broadcasts one match per week from the league.
