Description from Wikipedia:
Bing is a web search engine created by Microsoft that replaces Live Search. Unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer on May 28 2009, at the All Things D conference in San Diego, Bing is a replacement for Live Search, and will go live worldwide by June 3, 2009.
Notable improvements in general searches include the addition of related searches (called "Explorer pane" on the left side of search results) based on semantic technology from PowerSet, a search company Microsoft purchased in 2008, search suggestions as you type, and the ability to keep track of your search history.
