New Orleans (pronounced: /njuː ˈɔrliənz/, IPA: /njuː ˈɔrlənz|/, or IPA: /ˈnɔrlənz|/ by locals, IPA: /njuː ɔrˈliːnz|/ by many non-locals, and in La Nouvelle-Orléans ) is a major U.S. port and the largest city in the state of Louisiana. New Orleans is located in southeastern Louisiana, straddling the Mississippi River. The boundaries of the city and Orleans Parish are the same.
