Description from Wikipedia:
Katherine "Kate" Fitzgerald is a fictional character in the novel and subsequent film adaptation My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. Kate suffers from the disease acute promyelocytic leukemia after being diagnosed at the age of two. Following her diagnosis, her sister Anna was selected through in vitro fertilization from various embryos before being put into her mother Sara's womb, to be a genetic match donor after her elder brother Jesse tested inappropriate.
She doesn't enjoy her (long) visits to the hospital and just wants a normal life. She enjoys watching soap operas and dancing. When she was 14, she had a fling with a fellow leukemia patient who later dies a few days after their first kiss.
However, in a Washington Post review by Katherine Arie, Kate is described to be "as weak and wispy on the page as she's supposed to be in life."
